Project Title and Work Package(s): Stressosome expression, localisation and diffusion in response to osmotic stress in Listeria monocytogenes (WP1, WP2)

Objectives: To: (1) establish number and localisation of stressosomes in L. monocytogenes; (2) determine if localisation, turnover and diffusion is influenced by osmotic stress; (3) elucidate the molecular mechanisms underpinning the osmotic activation of the σB regulated transporter Lmo1421/1422 (BilE).

Expected Results: A quantitative description of the number and localisation of stressosomes in L. monocytogenes and an understanding of how osmotic stress influences these factors. The role and regulation of the cryptic σB-regulated transporter Lmo1421/1422 will be elucidated including a mechanistic model of its response to osmotic stress.

Personal Statement

Buu Minh Tran holds a bachelor degree in Biotechnology jointly issued by Can Tho University (Vietnam) and Michigan State University (USA) in 2014 and obtained his master degree of engineering in Nano System at Gachon University (South Korea) in June 2016. Currently, he is a PhD student of the Membrane Enzymology group, Groningen Biomolecular Sciences and Biotechnology Institute, Faculty of Science and Engineering, University of Groningen (the Netherlands). During his master study, he worked in foodborne pathogens detection project which fabricated a microfluidic chip for foodborne pathogens detection in raw samples using on-chip polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique. He is interested in working in interdisciplinary fields involving the combination of biotechnology, nanotechnology, and microfluidics for the applications on early detection of foodborne pathogens. In this project, he will be working on stressosome expression, localization and diffusion in response to osmotic stress in Listeria monocytogenes.
