Manisha Pandy

Manisha Pandey

Early Stage Researcher 12,
University of Dundee

Project Title and Work Package(s): Genetic study of the molecular mechanisms of sensory perception in B. subtilis. (WP 4)

Objectives: To: (1) generate σB reporter fusions that allow the quantification of stressosome-dependent stress sensing in B subtilis; (2) Use random transposon mutagenesis and targeted mutagenesis of RsbR and its paralogues to identify mutants with defective stress sensing (either locked-on or blind); (3) develop single-cell and population based mathematical models that account for the stress sensing behaviour of B. subtilis in collaboration with participant #UC.

Expected Results: The development of stress-sensing biosensors for B. subtilis, which will be available to the Network. Identification of novel factors influencing stressosome-mediated sensing in B. subtilis and a genetic definition of residues important for sensing in RsbR and its paralogues. A model describing the molecular mechanisms of stress sensing in Bacillus.

Personal Statement

I am Manisha Pandey from the land of Taj Mahal and Mars orbital Mission – India. I did my Bachelor’s in Zoology(h) from University of Delhi, India and my Master’s in Life Sciences from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India.

In my master’s dissertation I worked on a protein  involved in the phagocytic process of pathogen Entamoeba histolytica. Later, I briefly  worked in a lab working on chondrogenic differentiation of human bone marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells.

I am currently recruited as an ESR in University of Dundee. My primary interest are infection biology and development biology. Apart from science, I like interacting with new people, going on nature walks, reading, swimming and pondering over the unity and diversity of life.

Manisha has left the PATHSENSE programme.

My First Secondment!

By | January 27th, 2019|

Hello again! In this blog, I am going to talk about ''secondments''. The PATHSENSE programme, twice during the PhD provides short duration work experience in another university or industry, which are known as secondments. I

Hi All 😊, A lot of learning and travelling happened since my last post. Thanks to Marie-Curie fellowship. My first stop was a conference organised in a lovely Irish town, Kinsale. The conference had attendance
